DU sits sixth at NCAC Championship

The Denison men's indoor track and field team closed out the first day of the 2012 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship in sixth place on Friday in Crawfordsville, Ind.

Senior Wendell Taylor scored the Big Red's five points after finishing fourth in the shot put.  Taylor's toss of 44-10.75 was a personal best.  In the other final, senior Alexander Chappars took 12th in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:44.73.

In the prelim events, Chris Roth qualified for the finals of both the 60 and 200-meter dashes.  Roth finished fifth overall and second in his heat in the 60 with a time of 7.16.  In the 200, the senior posted a personal-best time of 23.04.  Roth's time also tied the fourth-best performance in school history.

Junior Chad Kosanovich qualified for Saturday's final in the 800 after finishing seventh in the prelims with a time of 1:58.04.  Trailing Kosanovich in the 800 was Jonathan Brachna.  Brachna finished 11th after crossing in 1:59.09.

The 2012 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will conclude on Saturday in Crawfordsville, Ind.  Field events are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m., while running events are scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m.
