Denison senior distance runner Dee Salukombo had a record-breaking performance in the 5,000-meter run at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Saturday.
In a race that featured runners from all three divisions of the NCAA, Salukombo finished fourth overall and posted the best time by a Division III runner. The senior's time of 14:24.58 ranks in the top-10 among Division III performances this season. In addition, Salukombo shattered the school record of 14:49.12 set by Brock Babcock in 2003.
At Saturday's Division III All-Ohio Championship, Denison junior Chad Kosanovich posted two top-7 finishes. Kosanovich finished second in the mile run with a time of 4:19.43. The junior's time marked a personal best in the event. Later in the day, he returned to take seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.25.
Also competing at the event was Jonathan Brachna, who finished 15th in the 400-meter dash (52.61).
At Friday's OWU open, senior Win Fox paced the Denison indoor track & field squad with a win. Fox was victorious in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.65. The senior also logged a sixth-place in the 200 after clocking in at 24.88. Trailing Fox in both races was DU sophomore Ivanhoe Hall. Hall was seventh in the 400 (56.53) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (25.95).
In the mile run, sophomore Connor Ford crossed the line in 4:53.45 en route to a ninth-place finish. Freshman Riley Roselius paced Denison in the field events with an eight-place finish in the pole vault after clearing 8-00.00. Senior Wendell Taylor recorded a distance of 38-04.75 in the weight throw, while sophomore John Bute tossed the shot put 32-03.75.
The Big Red returns to competition on Saturday (Feb. 18) at the Kenyon College Classic.
