The Big Red scored seven points and sit in fifth place after the first night of competition at the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference Track & Field Championship from Oberlin College.  

Denison was led on Friday night by Steven Gallego's (Lyndhurst, N.J./New Canaan [Conn.] fifth-place finish in the shot put.  Gallego posted a throw of 14.06 meters and was followed by teammate Wendell Taylor (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) who took 12th with a distance of 12.01 meters.

In the 5000 meter finals, junior Alex Chappars (Xenia, Ohio/Bellbrook) finished sixth in 15:33.78.

Wabash College sits in first place with 49 points.  The Big Red will return to Oberlin on Saturday to close out the conference championship meet.
