The Denison Big Red women's outdoor track and field team kicked off the 2011 season with a ninth-place finish at Cedarville University's Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open on Saturday.
First-year Christa Meyers paced the Big Red with a pair of top-8 finishes. Meyers took sixth in the high jump after clearing (4-07), and followed that up with a seventh-place finish in the 100 hurdles (18.19).
Senior Ashley Putnam was fourth in the 800-meter run after completing the event in 2:26.43, while Tiffany Davis finished the 200-meter dash in 27.54 en route to a fifth-place finish. Senior Katie Navarre also took sixth in the 5,000 meter with a time of 19:22.83.
In the field events, Ashlee Dickson tied for fourth in the pole vault after clearing9-00.25, while Georgie Strohmenger was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 29-09.25.
The 4x400 relay team of Beth Armitage, Ani Mutafova, Laura Houcque and Putnam took seventh with a time of 4:28.45.
Denison returns to action on Friday (April 1) at the College of Wooster.
