Sophomore Chad Kosanovich (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) won the 1 mile run to pace the Denison men's indoor track and field team at the Greater Columbus Invitational hosted by Otterbein University on Saturday in Westerville. The Big Red scored 30 points en route to a sixth-place finish.
Kosanovich completed the 1 mile run in 4:25.19, a second and a half faster than Ohio Wesleyan's Kale Booher. Fellow sophomore Stephen Czujko (Silver Spring, Mass./Our Lady of Good Counsel) logged a second-place finish in the 1,000-meter run after clocking in at 2:45.63.
The senior trio of Todd Johnson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles), Russell Holden (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) and Steven Gallego (Lyndhurst, N.J./New Canaan [Conn.]) all scored for DU. Johnson and Holden took seventh in their respective events. Johnson logged a time of 2:04.90 in the 800-meter run, while Holden finished the 3,000-meter run in 9:42.93. Gallego took third in the shot put with a toss of 45-04.50.
In the relay events, the 4x200 team of Pat Effinger (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North), Michael Cohen (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas), Peter Crady (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) and Brett Ayers (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) finished fifth with a time of 1:40.52. The grouping of Jon Brachna (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School), Kosanovich, Cohen and Win Fox (Lancaster, Ohio/Columbus Academy) also took fifth in the 4x400 (3:41.65).
Denison returns to action on Friday (Feb. 11) when they compete at the Capital Crusader Invitational.
