The Denison University men's track and field team competed at the Denison Last Chance Meet as their final tune up before next weekend's North Coast Athletic Conference Championship hosted by Oberlin College.
Junior Dee Salukombo (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) paced the Big Red with a victory in the 3,000-meter run. The junior finished the race with a time of 8:44.16, while senior Russell Holden (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) took third with a time of 9:23.63. In the mile run, sophomore Chad Kosanovich (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) crossed the line in 4:25.78 en route to a second-place finish, while rookie Jon Brachna (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.53. The DU 4x400 relay team won their event with a time of 3:38.61, while the 4x200 foursome finished third after clocking in at 1:36.24.
In the field events, senior Steven Gallego (Lyndhurst, N.J./New Canaan [Conn.]) took the silver in the shot put with a heave of 44-10.25, while classmate Kyle Bliss (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) finished third in his first high jump of the season after clearing 5-03.00.
Denison returns to action next weekend when they travel to Oberlin, Ohio for the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship. The two-day event begins on Friday.
