The Denison University men's track and field team took third with 72 points at the Capital Crusader Invitational on Friday evening in Bexley, Ohio.
The Big Red occupied three in the top 5 in the 5,000-meter run, highlighed by Dan Doggett's (Byfield, Mass./The Governor's Academy) first-place finish. The senior race in 16:05.17, while Steven Johnson (Xenia, Ohio/Bellbrook) and Alphonse Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) crossed the line in 3rd (16:13.28) and 5th (16:48.30) places, respectively.
Denison also logged multiple scorers in the 400-meter dash, 800-meter run and mile event. Michael Cohen (Houston, Texas/St. Thomas) and Pat Effinger (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North) finished third and fourth in the 400. Cohen crossed the finish line in 53.54, while Effinger posted a time of 53.90. In the 800, Stephen Czujko (Silver Spring, Mass./Our Lady of Good Counsel) logged a time of 2:07.00 en route to a third-place finishe, while Joe Thackery (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) took eighth (2:11.23). Jacob Ott (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) took fifth in the mile after checking in at 4:48.07, while Stephen Stitcher (Highland Park, Ill./Deerfield) completed the event in 4:57.17 en route to a seventh-place finish.
Jon Brachna (Shaker Heights, Ohio/University School) finished runner-up in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:09.79. In the 4x400 relay, the DU foursome picked up a victory after crossing the finish line in 3:37.85.
The Big Red return to action next Saturday (Feb. 19) when they compete at Kenyon College.
** At Saturday's All-Ohio Meet, sophomore Chad Kosanovich finished eighth in the mile with a time of 4:26.80.**
