The Denison women's outdoor track and field team closed out the season with a sixth place finish at the 2010 North Coast Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
After posting a career-best time in Friday's preliminary race, junior Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East) finished fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.41. The 4x400 relay team of Claire Navarro (Seal Beach, Calif./Los Alamitos), Putnam, Ali Bond (Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Alesha Stewart (Houma, La./La. School for Math, Science & Art) took sixth with a season-best time of 4:15.48. That same foursome finished seventh in the 4x100 relay, crossing the line in 52.54. In the 1500-meter run, sophomore Anelia Mutafova (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) logged a seventh-place finish after posting a time of 5:00.06.
After successful outing in the field event on Friday, which included a victory by senior Emily Hammeren (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) in the pole vault, fellow senior Emily Handelman (Rochester, N.Y./Penfield) registered a sixth-place finish in the hammer throw with a distance of 110-07.
Denison compiled 55 points, edging out Kenyon (54.33) for sixth place. Ohio Wesleyan (223.83) took home the team title, while Oberlin finished second with 146.5 points.
