Freshman Cal Keating placed first in the long jump and sophomore Dee Salukombo won the 3,000 meter run as the Big Red utilized their final tune-up before next weekend's North Coast Athletic Conference Championship.
The "Last Chance" meet, which was hosted by Denison at the Mitchell Center, was not scored but featured competitors from Ohio Wesleyan, Wooster, Waynesburg, Wittenberg, Oberlin and Kenyon.
In the long jump, Keating posted a distance of 21'4.25" to defeat Wittenberg's Yandy Plasencia. In the men's 3K, Salukombo logged a season-best time of 8:45.22 to win the event by more than eight seconds.
In the triple jump, Keating placed third when he covered 41'2.5" on his second attempt. Steve Gallego took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 43'9" and Bill Horn rounded out the field athletes for DU with a fourth place finish in the pole vault. Horn successfully cleared 13'0.25".
In the running events, Pat Effinger placed ninth in the 400 meter dash, freshman Steven Czujko took third in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:05.11, and Alex Chappars placed fifth in the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:39.40.
