Sophomores Chris Black (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Dee Salukombo (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) paced the Denison men's indoor track and field team at the Division III All-Ohio Meet hosted by Otterbein College on Saturday afternoon in Westerville, Ohio.
Black finished runner up in the 800-meter run, while Salukombo took the bronze in the one mile run. Black finished his race in 1:58.28, and Salukombo completed the mile run in 4:20.32.
Also placing for the Big Red was rookie Cal Keating (Encino, Calif./Notre Dame). Keating took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 21-03.50, and followed that up with a ninth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 41-08.75.
At the Kenyon Invitational on Friday, freshman Chad Kosanovich (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) paced the Big Red with a second-place finish in the 800-meter run. Kosanovich crossed the line in 2:01.03, while teammate Todd Johnson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) logged a time of 2:03.76 which was good enough for seventh place.
Sophomore Chris Roth (Milwaukee, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 23.90, while Russell Holden (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) and Steve Johnson (Xenia, Ohio/Bellbrook) finished fifth and eighth, respectively, in the 5,000 meter. Holden checked in at 16:07.44, while Johnson posted a time of 16:25.62.
In the field events, Steve Gallego (Lyndhurst, N.J./New Canaan) took third in the shot put with a toss of 13.05m.
Denison returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 20) when they travel to the Capital University Invitational in Bexley, Ohio.
