AKRON, Ohio-- The 2019-20 Denison women's swimming & diving season got underway on Friday night at the Akron Zips Classic, hosted by the University of Akron at the Ocasek Natatorium.
Through one of three sessions, Denison sits in fourth place with 90 points. The Big Redis the lone Division III institution competing at the event. Akron is in first place with 417 points followed by Miami (296), and Xavier (110). Denison is two points in front of fifth-place Cleveland State.
Individually, Denison was led by a 15th place finish by KT Kustritz in the 200 IM when she touched in 2:08.59. Michaela Morrison followed in 19th place at 2:11.67.
In the 500 free, first-year Keely Tierney placed 19th in 5:14.69. In the 50 free, Gabriella Nutter (24.53), Maddie Hopkins (24.63), and Casey Kirby (24.65) occupied places 23-25 in the event.
Two relays took place on Friday night. The meet opened with the 400 medley relay as Kirby, Kustritz, Hopkins and Tara Culibrk placed ninth in 3:53.16.
The 800 free relay team of Culibrk, Logan Wickman, Natalie Zaravella, and Tierney finished in eighth place at 7:57.79.
Denison will close out the Akron Zips Classic on Saturday with two sessions beginning at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
