WEST DUNDEE, Ill. – Denison men's golf improved by 13 strokes on Saturday to place fourth overall at the Tim Kopka Memorial Tournament held at the Randall Oaks Golf Club in West Dundee, Ill. After a posting a 300 during the first round, the Big Red tallied a 287 on the second day of action to finish with a 587, just three strokes back of third-place Aurora University (584). Webster University finished in second place with a 580 through two rounds and Illinois Wesleyan took home the team title with a two-day total of 558.
The Big Red were led by sophomore Marc Mitchell who finished the second round with a 67 (-4) and landed in a tie for 10th following his weekend total of 144. Senior Connor Holleran followed Mitchell by two strokes with a 146 after shooting for par (71) in the second round to land in a tie for 13th.
Fellow senior Christian Early posted a 149 for the tournament (+7) to tie for 21st overall and sophomore Ben Scherman shot a pair of 75's to finish tied for 28th at 150. Freshman Sam Davis rounded out the DU lineup in a tie for 44th at 153.
The Big Red return to the course on Sunday, Sept. 22 when they compete at the Rhodes Fall Collegiate Classic held at the Tunica National Golf Resort in Tunica, Miss.
