WEST DUNDEE, Ill. (September 11, 2021) – The first tournament of the 2021-22 season for the No. 9 Denison University men's golf team saw the Big Red improve six spots from round one to round two to finish in fifth place.
Denison (302-290; 592) improved by 12 strokes from Friday to Saturday and was the highest riser in the field of 19 teams during the final day.
Just like it did as a team, Denison had some great improvements on the individual leaderboard as well from round one to round two.
Both
Ben Scherman (75-71; 146) and
Sam Davis (76-73; 149) improved 14 spots as Scherman tied with five others for 12th place and Davis tied with six other players for 23rd in the 108-player field.
The greatest improvement of the tournament, however, went to
Marc Mitchell (81-71; 152), who improved 10 strokes and 43 spots to finish tied for 40th.
Davis Johnson (75-75; 150) finished in a six-player tie for 30th, and the final member of Denison's top-five was
Jesse Felker (76-82; 158) in a six-player tie for 67th.
Competing as individuals were
Griffin Hayden (77-79; 156) in a four-player tie for 58th, and Jackson Schaeffer (77-93; 170) in a tie for 97th.
Next up for the Denison men's golf team will be the NCAA Preview in Howie-In-The-Hills, Florida, from September 19-21.
