Denison senior Olivia Galano was named North Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Week in women's cross country following an impressive showing last weekend in Westerville, Ohio.
Galano led the Big Red to a fourth-place finish at the 17-team Otterbein Invitational after finishing the race second out of 199 runners. The senior finished nine seconds off the winning pace set by Heidelberg's Sophie Goobic at 23:35.1. Her time of 23:44.8 translated to a 6:23 per mile pace.
Last Saturday marked the third top-2 finish among Division III runners for Galano this season. In DU's season opener at the Dayton Flyer 5K, she posted the fastest time by a Division III athlete after clocking in at 19:43.8. Two weeks later, she finished second overall with a time of 22:43.6 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester.
Galano and the Big Red will return to competition on Friday, Oct. 4 when they travel to Cedarville University for the All-Ohio Championship. The men's race will begin at 2 p.m., while the women's event is slated to start at 2:45 p.m.
