Denison senior Olivia Galano's second-place finish helped the Big Red women's cross country team to a fourth-place finish out of 17 teams at the Otterbein Invitational on Saturday.
Galano finished nine seconds off the winning pace set by Heidelberg's Sophie Goobic at 23:35.1 Galano's time of 23:44.8 translated to a 6:23 per mile pace.
Following in ninth place overall for DU was sophomore Emily Lamm who posted a time of 24:15.7. Abbi Boss placed 19th overall and third for Denison in 24:52.8. First-year Claire Barcelo recorded a 31st place finish after clocking in at 25:23.3 and sophomore Kate Benson closed out the Big Red's scoring with a 35th place finish after a time of 25:36.3
Mount Union University was the overall champion with a score of 42 points. NCAA Division II competitor, Findlay, was second with 87 points, while Heidelberg edged DU by two points, finishing with 94 points to the Big Red's 96 points.
Denison is off next weekend but will return to action on Friday (Oct. 4) at the All-Ohio Championship that will be hosted by Cedarville University.
