The Denison volleyball team notched its 14th win of the season and its seventh shutout of the year following a 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-17) decision over North Coast Athletic Conference foe Allegheny on Saturday afternoon in Granville.
The Big Red jumped on the Gators early with convincing 25-15 and 25-11 victories in the opening two sets. In the first two sets, Allegheny combined for just nine kills and seven errors in 91 attempts. The Gators found some offensive rhythm in the third with 13 kills and just two errors on 33 attempts, but the high-powered Denison offense secured a 25-17 win in the final set.
Senior Lauren Gustafson and sophomore Brittany Perry led the DU attack with eight kills each, while freshman Rachele Lock had seven finishers. Perry finished with a .438 hitting percentage after committing one error in 16 attempts, while Gustafson recorded just two miscues in 19 attempts for a .316 clip. Kenzie Kuhn and Elena Lein combined for nine kills and seven blocks on the day. Kuhn had five kills, two solo blocks and two block assists, while Lein recorded four finishers, one solo rejection and two block assists.
Junior setter Jessica Borsani dished out 32 assists, while junior libero Emily Marguerite and sophomore Sydney Garverick combined for five of the team's six aces. Defensively, Marguerite logged a match-high 34 digs, while Borsani finished with 11.
Denison improves to 14-5 on the season and 3-1 in the NCAC, while the Gators fall to 8-12 and 1-2 in league action. The Big Red takes a break from conference action on Thursday when they travel to New Concord, Ohio to take on Muskingum University. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
