Ashlee Dickson took 6th in the pole vault at the W&L-VMI Carnival on Friday.

Denison opened the outdoor portion of the track and field season with four top-8 finishes on day one of the 2012 Washington & Lee-Virginia Military Institute Carnival.

All three active field athletes on Friday finished in the top-8.  Senior Ashlee Dickson and first-year Kristen Geary took sixth (9'8") and eighth (9'2.25"), respectively, in the pole vault.  Both Dickson and Geary posted personal records which ranked fifth and sixth all-time in program history.  Dickson's final height topped her previous best by 3.75 inches.  Senior Katherine Sylvia also logged an eighth-place finish in the discus with a toss of 112'8".

In the track events, Michelle Clark and Abbi Boss both finished in the top 15 in the 1,500-meter run.  Clark took seventh with a time of 5:00.02, while Boss was 14th after crossing the line in 5:11.51.  Denison also had four runners compete in the 5,000-meter run.  Sophomore Olivia Galano paced the Big Red with a 17th-place finish after checking in at 19:44.90.  Anne McGinty took 23rd place (20:28.11) followed by Riley Sechrist (21:28.95) and Nora Victoroff (23:17.00).

The foursome of Tiffany Davis, Jane Zelenkov, Jillian Reagan and Laura Houcque combined to finish the 4x400 relay in 4:29.25.  That time was good enough for a ninth-place finish.

DU closes out the two-day W&L-VMI Carnival on Saturday.  Field events are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., while track events are slated to start at 10 a.m.
