The Denison women's indoor track and field team traveled to Gambier, Ohio on Saturday for the Kenyon College Classic. In addition, sophomore Tiffany Davis competed at the Kent State Tune Up.
Davis continued her breakout season on Saturday afternoon. In the 60-meter dash, the sophomore posted a personal best time of 7.82 on her way to a fourth-place finish. Davis' time was one tenth of a second faster than her previous mark. An hour and a half later, she returned to the track for the 200-meter dash. Davis went on to finish second in the event with a record-setting performance. Her time of 25.34 bested the record set by Jackie Berner in 2003 by 42 hundredths of a second.
At the Kenyon Classic, junior Michelle Clark paced the Big Red with a fourth-place finish in the mile after crossing the line in 5:20.66. Trailing Clark in the mile was first-year Abbi Boss who took sixth with a time of 5:25.24. Boss also finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:30.38). Distance runner Olivia Galano paced a DU trio in the 5,000. Galano finished fifth (20:18.28), while Anne McGinty and Riley Sechrist took sixth (20:40.21) and eighth (21:43.39), respectively.
Senior Jane Zelenkov and sophomore Emily Siskind represented Denison in the 400. Zelenkov took sixth with a time of 1:05.45, while Siskind's time of 1:06.88 landed her in eighth place. In the 200, sophomore sprinter Rose Schrott and Zelenkov finished eighth (28.92) and ninth (29.37), respectively. Schrott also took eighth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.60.
In the field events, senior Katherine Sylvia took sixth in the shot put with a toss of 33-05.75, while classmate Ashlee Dickson finished seventh in the pole vault after clearing 9-01.00. The team of Siskind, Zelenkov, Boss and Clark took second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:30.85. In the 4x200 relay, the group of Jillian Reagan, Dickson, Kristen Geary and Laura Houcque took fifth after clocking in at 2:08.79.
The Big Red returns to action on Friday (Feb. 24) when they host the Denison Last Chance Meet. Events are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
