Even though they traveled with a select roster, the Denison women's indoor track and field team opened the year with a seventh-place finish at the Purple & White Invitational at Capital University.
Sophomore Tiffany Davis paced the Denison with top-3 finishes in the 200 and 400 meter dash events. Davis finished second in the 200 with a time of 26.28, and third in the 400 after crossing the line in 1:01.40. Trailing Davis in the 400 dash were senior Jane Zelenkov and first-year Jillian Reagan. Zelenkov took sixth at 1:08.08, while Reagan was ninth with a time of 1:13.92.
Also placing in the 200 meter dash were sophomores Rose Schrott and Celeste Mullings, and Zelenkov. Schrott and Mullings finished 13th (29.04) and 16th (29.78), respectively, while Zelenkov clocked in at 30.05.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Mullings and Reagan crossed the line in 10th and 12th place. In the field events, rookie Kristen Geary took seventh after clearing 8-00.50.
Denison will compete in its first complete team competition on Jan. 28 at the Defiance Alumni Invitational.
