The Denison University women's indoor track and field squad posted a strong showing at the Denison Lid-Lifter on Saturday afternoon in Granville.
Senior Kirby Mosenthal (Briarcliff, N.Y./Irvington) took second in the 3,000-meter race with a time of 11:38.79, while senior Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East) and junior Ani Mutafova (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) finished third and fifth, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Putnam completed the race in 2:26.83, while Mutafova crossed the line at 2:27.60. In the 55-meter hurdles, rookie Christa Meyers (Portage, Ind. Hathaway Brown [Ohio]) finished in third place with a time of 9.63.
The 4x200 relay team of junior Alesha Stewart (Houma, La./La. School for M, S & A), senior Laura Wolgamott (Loudonville, Ohio/Loudonville), first-year Celeste Mullings (Fayetteville, N.C./Cross Creek Early College) and junior Maggie Burnside (Delaplane, Va./Highland) took second with a time of 1:59.43. The 4x400 grouping of Mutafova, Putnam, Laura Houcque (Elkhorn, Wis./Evanston Township [Ill.]) and Beth Armitage (Vienna, Va./James Madison) finished runner-up after completing the race in 4:31.85.
In the field events, junior Ashlee Dickson (Circleville, Ohio/Logan Elm) won the pole vault after clearing 8-00.00, while classmate Andrea Pion (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) finished third in the high jump with a mark of 4-09.00.
The Big Red return to action on Saturday (Jan. 29) when they travel to Oberlin for the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays.
