Junior Ashley Putnam (North East, Pa./North East) logged her first victory of the season to pace the Denison women's indoor track and field team at the Capital University Invitational on Saturday in Bexley, Ohio. Denison finished in seventh place with 44 points.
Coming off a second-place finish in the 800-meter run at last weekend's All-Ohio Championships, Putnam captured first in the 500 with a time of 1:21.64. Also aiding DU was junior Katie Navarre (Upper Arlington, Ohio/Upper Arlington), who took second in the 3,000-meter run (10:34.62) and third in the one mile run (5:29.74). Anelia Mutafova (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) recorded a fifth-place finish in the mile with a time of 5:32.90, while Anne McGinty (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) was seventh in the 3K (11:33.76).
In the field events, Emily Taylor (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and Katherine Sylvia (Butler, Pa./Butler) took fifth and seventh, respectively, in the shot put. Taylor recorded a toss of 34-03.50, while Sylvia notched a mark of 34-02.75.
Denison returns to action on Friday, Feb. 26 when they host the Denison Last Chance Meet at the Mitchell Center in Granville, Ohio.
