The Denison Big Red Women's Tennis Team traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan to compete in the ITA Central Regional Tournament From Sept. 30-Oct. 2. Highlighting the weekend were Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup. Seeded fourth, the pair reached the semifinals, besting Lark Foote and Liz Turner of Calvin, Kaela Bynoe and Adrienne Travis of Chicago, Lauren O'Malley and Madisyn Rini of John Carroll, and the DePauw pair of Madelyn Lee and Gretchen Wilder.
Hawley advanced to the semifinals of the singles tournament, padding her big weekend. Hawley, seeded fourth, defeated Elizabeth Pniewski of Hope and Rainie Heck of Oberlin in the first two rounds. She faced two familiar opponents in the rounds of 32 and 16, topping Kaela Bynoe of Chicago 6-0; 6-0 and Gretchen Wilder of DePauw 6-1; 6-0. She defeated ninth-seeded Estefania Navarro of Chicago in the quarterfinals 6-3; 2-6; 7-5 to advance to the semifinals, losing to No. 1 seed, Rebecca Ho of Washington-St. Louis.
The tandem of Megan Hickey and Ashley Hammons continued the doubles success for the Big Red, advancing to the finals of the second draw, defeating Peyton Carroll and Sarah Gallup of Wittenberg, Mara Kaspers and Katherine McCauley of Kenyon, and Molly Angell and Melissa Donovan of Millikin. Individually, Hickey advanced to the round of 32, and Hammons reached the semifinal round of the second draw.
As a team, the Big Red only suffered one defeat at the hands of an NCAC opponent on the weekend.
