For the second-consecutive season, Denison senior Kelsey Geppner will compete in singles draw of the 2014 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Individual Championship beginning on Thursday, May 22 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif.
A three-time all-conference honoree, Geppner earned first-team honors for the second-consecutive year after posting a 14-12 record in singles play. The senior went 9-9 at No. 1 singles, and defeated four regionally-ranked opponents this season.
Geppner will face Coutrney Lawless of Whitman (Wash.) College in the Thursday's first round at 1:30 p.m. EST. Lawless is a two-time Northwest Conference Player of the Year and boasts a 14-6 record. The winner of the Geppner-Lawless match will advance to take on the winner of the Gabby Devlin (Amherst) and Lindsay Raulston (Mary Washington) opening round match.
In addition to earning a spot in the singles bracket of the national tournament, Geppner and doubles partner Taylor Hawkins will serve as alternates in the doubles portion of the championship tournament. The duo received first-team honors as the Big Red's No. 1 doubles team. They posted a 14-9 mark in doubles play, including a 10-7 record at the top doubles flight. Geppner is a three-time honoree in doubles play, earning second-team honors in 2011 and first-team recognition last year. For Hawkins, it marked her first All-NCAC doubles award.
