The second-seeded Denison women's tennis team advanced to the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals with a 5-0 win over Wittenberg on Friday in Oberlin, Ohio.
Much like their match eight days ago, the Big Red took a commanding lead after posting three 8-1 victories in doubles play. The freshmen duo of Taylor Hawkins and Audrey Fitzpatrick improved to 6-1 on the year after knocking off Kristin Wright and Jaimie Whaley at the first flight. Meg Chiumento and Emma Forman, another freshmen tandem, picked up their seventh win of the season, while Katy Barenholtz and Heather Abzug won at No. 3 doubles.
Denison needed just two singles victories to secure its quarterfinal win. The Big Red got those decisions at the third and sixth flights from a pair of rookies. Forman improved to 12-6 overall and 4-0 at No. 3 singles following a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Kaitlin Payne, while Sarah Torrence notched her fifth win of the year via 6-0, 6-1 scores.
With Friday's victory, the Big Red will take on third-seeded Kenyon, who defeated No. 6 Wooster 5-0 in the quarterfinals, at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
