In the final contest before their spring break trip to Hilton Head, the Big Red shut out The College of Wooster, 9-0, on Tuesday night in Wooster, Ohio.
Junior Kelsey Geppner and freshman Taylor Hawkins picked up their third-straight victory, and first at the top doubles flight, following an 8-2 decision over Catherine Christian and Melanie Chin. At second doubles, Emma Forman and Heather Abzug posted a dominating 8-1 victory over Lauren Gilliss and Rose Chiumento. DU completed the doubles sweep when Meg Chiumento and Eleni Coleman edged out Rachel Appleton and Rachel Dietz, 8-5.
In singles play, Denison won all six flights via straight-set decisions. Geppner topped Christian (6-1, 6-1) to secure her second win at No. 1 singles, while Hawkins improved to 6-2 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the second flight.
Abzug snapped a five-match skid with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the third flight, while Katy Barenholtz and Sarah Torrence won at fourth and fifth singles, repsectively, via matching 6-1, 6-0 scores. Freshman Frances Hinkamp completed the shutout win with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Gillis at No. 6 singles.
Denison improves to 3-2, while Wooster falls to 2-5. The Big Red returns to the court on Sunday when they take on George Mason in Hilton Head, S.C. Match time is slated for 12 p.m.
