Short and Marcell named All-Americans

Alex Marcell (L) and Sarah Short
Alex Marcell (L) and Sarah Short

The No. 1 doubles team of senior Sarah Short and junior Alex Marcell earned All-American recognition after finishing fifth in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings.

Short earned her second-consecutive All-American certificate in doubles play, while Marcell received her first All-American award in her first national appearance.

The tandem compiled an impressive 20-3 record, including a 20-2 mark at the top doubles flight.  Prior to their opening round match in the NCAA Doubles Draw, Short and Marcell posted a perfect record against Division III teams, with their only losses coming to Division II opponents.  In addition to finishing fifth in the final national rankings, the Denison team also finished second in the Central Region.

Marcell was also named the ITA's Player to Watch in the central region after posting an impressive 15-5 singles record, including a 13-4 mark at No. 2 singles.
