DU seeking 11th-straight NCAC Title

Coming off a record 10th-straight North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament title in 2011, the Denison women's tennis team begins its journey for an 11th-concesutive crown on Friday in Gambier.

The Big Red earned the third seed after posting a 2-1 record in NCAC West Division play.  DU will open the tournament against No. 6 seed Allegheny on Friday at 11 a.m.  The Gators finished the regular season with a 1-2 record in the NCAC East.

Denison is led by senior Sarah Short and junior Alex Marcell, who are both ranked in the Central Region.  Short finished the regular season with an 8-9 record at the first singles flight, and a 3-0 record in conference action.  At second singles, Marcell was 11-4 overall and 2-1 in NCAC play.  In addition to their singles success, Short and Marcell have posted an impressive 17-2 record at No. 1 doubles.  They are currently ranked second in the region and have won 12-straight matches heading into the postseason.

The other three opening round matches feature top-seeded DePauw against No. 8 Wooster, No. 4 Kenyon vs. No. 5 Wittenberg, and second-ranked Oberlin against seventh-seeded Ohio Wesleyan.

Winners of the opening round matches will advance to Friday's semifinal matches, while the opening round losers will continue play on Friday and Saturday in the back draw bracket.  The fifth-place and seventh-place matches will begin on Saturday morning at 9 a.m., while the championship match and third-place match will begin at approximately 11 a.m.
