Short earns NCAC POW honors

Sarah Short

Denison senior Sarah Short was named North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week following strong performances against Wittenberg and Division I Dayton.

Short went a perfect 4-0 on the week after logging a pair of singles and doubles wins.  The senior posted victories over Wittenberg's Leah Ann Miller (6-4, 6-1) and Dayton's Claire McNulty (6-4, 6-3) at the first singles flight.  She has now won five-straight singles matches and is 6-5 at the first singles flight.

The senior captain also improved to 9-2 at No. 1 doubles with partner Alex Marcell.  The duo opened the week with an 8-3 decision over miller and Georgia Bennett of Wittenberg.  They also knocked off the Flyers' McNulty and Maureen Stevens 8-5 on Friday.  Short and Marcell have won four straight and are 9-1 in their last 10 matches.

The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Gambier, Ohio for a 5 p.m. match against Kenyon.
