Rain halts match with Slippery Rock
Denison University held a 4-2 lead over Division II Slippery Rock before inclement weather forced an early end to the contest. The two squads will not finish the match.
The Big Red took two of three doubles matches to take the early lead. Senior Kate Westenberger and first-year Heather Abzug doubled up Elisabeth Yetiskul and Lauren Coggins 8-4 at second doubles. At the third flight, senior Courtney Steiner and sophomore Lilianna Broussalian also defeated Janelle Krantz and Samantha Bruggeman via 8-4 decision.
In singles competition, DU won two of the three matches before rain forced the stoppage. The Rocks tied the match at 2-2 when Yetiskul defeated Westenberger at No. 3 singles. However, senior Sarah Short and junior Alex Marcell won at first and second singles to put Denison one point shy of the victory. Short won in straight sets over Sarah Lynch (6-4, 7-6 [9-7]), while Marcell defeated Dunja Drmac in three sets (6-2, 6-7 [5-7], 10-6).
