Lilianna Broussalian's win at No. 6 singles helped DU secure Saturday's win.

The Denison women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season following a 5-4 decision over Case Western Reserve on Saturday evening in Cleveland, Ohio.

Senior Sarah Short and junior Alex Marcell logged their first victory as a doubles team after posting an 8-6 decision over the Spartans' Erika and Alexandra Lim, the No. 7 team in the Central Region.  Sophomore Kelsey Geppner and senior Kate Westenberger doubled up Kathleen Evers and Bianca Patel at the second doubles flight.

In singles play, victories by Geppner, Marcell and sophomore Lilianna Broussalian secured the DU win.  Geppner won a pair of 6-3 decision at No. 2 singles, while Marcell defeated Emily Pham 6-3, 6-2 at third singles.  The Big Red clinched the match when Broussalian won in straight-sets (6-4, 6-3) over Patel.

Denison improves to 1-1 on the year, while the Spartans fall to 6-2.  DU returns to action on Friday (Mar. 2) at the ITA National Indoor Championship hosted by DePauw University.
