ATHENS, Ohio-- Second-ranked Denison posted three event victories but it wasn't enough to upend Division I Ohio University. The Bobcats held off the Big Red for a 192.5-104.5 win from the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
Denison's Angela Le won the 100 backstroke and placed second in the 100 butterfly. Le posted the winning time of 58.00 in the 100 back. Her time of 57.26 in the 100 fly resulted in a runner-up finish.
Fellow first-year, KT Kustritz won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.27 and took second in the 200 breast in 2:20.80. Junior All-American Halli Garza touched first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:03.61. She also placed second in the 200 IM in 2:10.87. Teammate Natalie Zaravella was third in the event with a time of 2:11.18.
In diving, Allison Fitzgerald totaled a six-dive score of 261.75 to place second on the 1-meter board. Emma Weber was fourth on the 1-meter board with a score of 233.10. On the 3-meter board, Fitzgerald led the way with a third-place score of 260.10. Naomi Clayton followed in fifth place with 226.20.
In the distance freestyle events, Campbell Costley logged a second place finish in the 500 free in 5:02.66 and a third place showing in the 1,000 free after a time of 10:20.74.
DU also went on to place second in both relays. In the 200 medley relay, Casey Kirby, Kustritz, Le and Kane combined for a time of 1:45.85. In the 400 free relay, it was Kane, Nutter, Kirby and Kustritz who finished in 3:33.72.
Denison returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 8 when they host DePauw University at noon from the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
