OXFORD, Ohio-- Denison posted five NCAA 'B' cut times to open the 2016 Miami Invitational. The Big Red sits in fifth place after day one of three. Miami University leads the 10-team field with 343 points. Bowling Green is second with 185.5 and Emory is third with 170.5.
Milwaukee has a 10 point lead on Denison at 160 points. Denison has 150 while Washington-St. Louis is sixth with 120 points. Ball State (88), Indiana (57), Urbana (11) and Missouri-St. Louis (10) round out the top-10.
Senior Campbell Costley logged the best finish of the day as she touched third in the 500 freestyle with a 'B' cut time of 4:52.65. In the B-Final, Natalie Zaravella logged a season-best time of 4:59.24 to place 11th. It was also a provisional qualifying time for Division III nationals. Rounding out the event for DU was Alex Elizeus in 17th with a time of 5:03.19.
In the finals of the 200 IM, KT Kustritz followed her career-best time of 2:03.73 in prelims with a fifth-place finish in the finals and a time of 2:04.05.
Carolyn Kane also notched a season-best time of 21.18 in the morning. She went on to place fifth in the finals in 23.37. Kane started off the night with Casey Kirby, Carly Olsakovsky and Kustritz with a fifth place finish in the 200 free relay in 1:34.47.
The night was closed out by Kirby, Kustritz, Angela Le and Liz Kane in the 400 medley relay. The foursome touched sixth with a 'B' cut time of 3:46.88.
Denison will return to the pool on Friday at 10 a.m.
