Denison women's swimming and diving fell to Division I Eastern Michigan, 196-100 on Saturday.
Junior and four-time All-American Halli Garza paced the Big Red with a victory in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.54. Later in the meet, Denison got another victory from first-year KT Kustritz in the 200 IM after her time of 2:10.08. Classmate Erica Hsu followed in second in 2:11.68.
Kustritz was busy in her second collegiate meet. After an impressive debut at last Saturday's Kenyon Relays, she finished third in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events with times of 1:05.38 and 2:23.45, respectively. Kustritz also swam on the second-place 200 medley relay along with Casey Kirby, Angela Le and Carolyn Kane. The relay combined for a time of 1:46.01 powered by Kustritz's 25.58 breaststroke split.
Senior Campbell Costley was the runner-up in the 200 free and the 500 free. In the 200, she posted a time of 1:53.51 and returned for a 5:01.51 in the 500. First-year Natalie Zaravella took third in the 500 free, hitting the wall in 5:06.63.
Zaravella also led a trio of Big Red first-year swimmers in the 1,000 freestyle. Her time of 10:34.21 placed her third while Hannah Rusinko (10:43.14) and Caroline Colville (10:58.21) followed in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Carolyn Kane was the runner-up in the 100 fly in 58.30. She also took fifth in the 50 free, touching in 24.89.
In addition to swimming on the 200 medley relay, Kirby also touched fourth in the 100 free (53.69) and was fifth in the 100 backstroke (58.04).
Denison's divers were led by Allison Fitzgerald who finished second in the 1-meter with a score of 243.37 and was third on the 3-meter board with a six-dive score of 238.57. Sarah Lopez finished third on the 1-meter board with a score of 197.03 and was sixth on the 3-meter board at 209.19. Emma Weber placed fifth in the 3-meter competition at 222.68 while Eva Vivero finished fourth on the 1-meter board at 195.97.
The Big Red returns to the pool on Friday, Nov. 4 when they go head-to-head with the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio.
