Senior Day Success: DU knocks off Tartans

The Big Red women closed out its 2012-13 home schedule on Saturday with a 147-118 victory over Carnegie Mellon from the Trumbull Aquatics Center.

Denison posted 14 victories on the day and was led by three-time winners Michelle Howell, Lindsay Zeberlein and Natalie Lugg.

Howell posted wins in the 200 fly (2:08.56), the 100 free (53.46), and the 200 IM (2:11.40).  Her time in the 200 fly was an NCAA provisional qualifying time but was six seconds behind her season-best 'A' cut time of 2:02.57 posted at the Miami Invitational.

Zeberlein picked up her victories as part of the 200 medley relay along with Lugg, Victoria Masney and Molly Willingham.  She also took first in the 200 backstroke (58.47) and the 200 back (2:06.34).

Lugg, who swam on the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:49.37 was also a winner in the 100 breast (1:07.35) and the 200 breast (2:27.11).

Junior Tully Bradford earned a victory in the 200 freestyle after posting a time of 1:56.45.  Morgan Nuess was also a winner in the 50 freestyle, touching in 24.05 seconds. 

First-year Kelly Frazier swept the diving events with a winning score of 229.65 in the 3-meter board and a 177.38 in the 1-meter competition.

DU's winners were rounded out by Taylor Johns who posted a time of 5:10.54 to win the 500 free and Claire Van Fossen who won the 100 fly in 59.48 seconds.

Denison's dual meet record improves to 5-3 with the win.  They will close out their dual meet schedule next Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan.

NOTABLE: Prior to Saturday's meet Denison University had a chance to honor its 10-member senior class.  Swimming in their final dual meet in Granville was Maddie Armitage, Shannon Cogan, Sarah DiNardo, Meghan Green, Lilla Grisham, Cari Martin, Victoria Masney, Alyssa Swanson, Sarah Yu, and Lindsay Zeberlein.
