Denison defeats Grove City

The Denison women's swimming & diving team improved to 4-3 on the season after a 161-119 victory over Grove City College on Saturday in Grove City, Pa.

DU captured victories in nine events and was led by Natalie Lugg's pair of wins in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke.  Lugg touched in 1:08.07 to win the 100 breast.  She returned with a time of 2:27.52 to win the 200.

Molly Willingham and Michelle Howell were each multi-event winners.  Willingham led the pack in the 200 backstroke with her time of 2:08.71.  She also joined Howell, Ashley Yearwood and Mary Van Leuven on the winning 200 medley relay (1:49.57).

For Howell, her individual event victory came in the 200 butterfly in 2:10.09.  Rookie Emily Eiben won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.72 and Taylor Johns took first in the 1,000 free, touching in 10:34.56.

In the diving events, Kelly Frazier placed first in the 3-meter board with a score of 280.20.  She was also the runner-up in the 1-meter board after tallying a score of 227.15.

The Big Red's top finishers were rounded out by senior Alyssa Swanson who won the 500 free (5:11.49) and placed second in the 200 free (1:56.03).  Denison will close out its 2012-13 home schedule next Saturday (Jan. 26) when they host Carnegie Mellon at 1 p.m.
