GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Four first-half goals was enough to power Denison to a 4-2 victory over the College of Wooster at Barclay-Thomsen Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Denison improves to 2-2-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play while the Fighting Scots drop to 3-3-1.
The Big Red got things going early thanks to a pair of goals from Claire Kolff in the first seven minutes of the contest. The first goal occurred 4:02 in the match when Kolff took a shot that deflected off Wooster's goalkeeper Maddy Ireton and into the back of the net.
Just over two minutes later, Maggie Armstrong fed Kolff with a pass inside the box for the second goal of the match for her third goal of the season.
In the 34th minute, the Big Red capitalized on a set-piece as Grace Murray's serve was headed into the goal by Maggie Armstrong, lifting Denison to a 3-0 lead. Four minutes later, Armstrong put DU on top 4-0 by drilling a shot to the far left post past the Wooster keeper.
In the second half, Wooster put two on the board as Emma Lawrence notched a goal in the 54th minute and Meghan Badge scored in the 85th minute. The Fighting Scots attempted once shot over the final five minutes but were unable to cut into the Big Red lead.
Jenny Herold posted two saves in 90 minutes. For Wooster, Ireton played 78 minutes and finished with nine saves. Molly Hutter finished the final 12 minutes and turned in one save.
Denison returns to the pitch on Tuesday, Oct. 24 when they host Hiram College at 7 p.m. at Barclay-Thomsen Field.
