Allegheny's Hannah Zangara broke a scoreless tie in the 29th minute of play, and that tally would stand up as the Gators edged visiting Denison, 1-0 on Saturday from Meadville, Pa.
With time running down in the second half, Denison nearly tied the score when sophomore Andrea Witte fired a shot that clanged off the post with five minutes to play. One minute later, Logan Berlet, who was coming off a hat-trick on Wednesday, sent her second shot of the afternoon, wide right.
The Gators did hold a 17-11 advantage in the shot department. They forced DU keeper, Andrea Karl, to make five saves. AC goalkeeper, Gabby Curtis, posted three saves on the day.
Maddie Regan and Meg Sutter led Denison with three shot attempts. Alison Buzzard paced the Gators with six shots while Michelle Holcomb added four.
Allegheny improves to 4-4-2 with the win while Denison's record dips to 4-5. The Big Red will look to get back on track on Wednesday when they travel to Otterbein for a 4 p.m. start with the Cardinals.
