The Denison women's soccer team climbed back over the .500 mark following a dominating 3-1 victory over regionally-ranked Transylvania on Saturday afternoon in Granville, Ohio.

The freshmen class put the Big Red on the board in the 15th minute of play.  DU setup for a free kick from roughly 40 yards out after Transy was whistled for their second infraction of the match.  Shelby Jude lifted a cross from the left side that found the head of classmate Jessica Skelly.  Skelly flicked the ball towards a wide open Anne Denz who ripped the ball into the upper right 90 for her first-collegiate goal.

The scored remained 1-0 until the two squads combined for a trio of goals in a 74 second span.  Denison doubled its lead at 53:09 when sophomore transfer Logan Berlet scored off a crossing pass by sophomore Andrea Witte.  The Pioneers cut the deficit in half just 36 seconds later.  Michelle Schroeck scored the equalizer off a diving save by senior goalie Andrea Karl.

The Big Red quickly rebuilt their two-goal lead when Skelly scored her first goal of the year off an assist from Witte.  The sophomore midfielder sent her corner into the box. In the midst of a scrum for the ball, Skelly punched it in from point blank range.

Denison spent the majority of the game in their offensive third.  The home team outshot Transy 24-9, including an 11-5 edge in shots on net.  They also attempted seven corner kicks to the Pioneers one.

Skelly paced the offense with a goal and an assist, while Witte recorded two helpers in her first action of the 2013 season.  Karl finished with four saves, while Transylvania goalkeeper Erin Snyder made eight stops in goal.

Saturday's win marked the first of three-straight matches against regionally-ranked opponents.   The Big Red (3-2) will travel to seventh-ranked Ohio Northern on Tuesday and fourth-ranked Centre on Saturday.  Tuesday's game in Ada is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
