Two members of Denison's women's soccer team, junior Jocelyn Festle and first-year Andrea Witte, were named to the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association's All-Ohio teams on Wednesday afternoon. In addition, three more Big Red women were tabbed for the OCSA's Academic All-Ohio honors.
Festle and Witte finished one-two in Denison's scoring attack, combining for 10 goals and 25 points. The junior midfielder Festle led the Big Red with six goals, earning her second-team honors. Her partner Witte landed on the All-Ohio third team after compiling a team-high in game-winning goals with three, as well as a team-best three assists.
Denison's academic All-Ohio honorees included sophomore defender Gen Eng-Surowiec, junior goalkeeper Andrea Karl and senior defender Alicia Blake. In addition to her five shutouts and .733 save percentage, Karl led the academic pack with a 4.00 GPA. The combination of on-field exploits and classroom success placed the biochemistry major on the Academic All-Ohio second team.
Karl was joined by a pair of Big Red defenders who helped limit Denison's opponents to 20 goals in 19 matches. Like Karl, Eng-Surowiec made her way onto the second team, boasting a 3.46 GPA as a biology major. On the pitch, the sophomore posted three points from her backfield position. Denison's defense achieved further academic success with Blake. A double-major in economics and communication, the senior earned a 3.62 GPA and a spot on the Academic All-Ohio third team.
