GRANVILLE, Ohio – Led by senior Brittany Atkinson's 11 points in the second quarter, Denison women's basketball rolled past Allegheny College, 71-54, on Saturday afternoon at Livingston Gymnasium.

Honoring the lone senior before the start of Saturday's action, Atkinson went 3-of-4 from three-point territory in the second frame, helping the Big Red shoot 67-percent (8-of-12) from the perimeter in the quarter.

Holding a 19-12 lead coming out of the first period, DU opened the second with a 13-4 scoring run, capitalized by five points each from Atkinson and sophomore Lauren Turner.

Following a pair of free throws from Allegheny's Delaney Arbore, junior's Lucy Bancone and Valesha Province went back-to-back from triple, giving Denison a 38-18 lead with 5:06 remaining before halftime. Atkinson then added a pair of threes to take a 44-22 advantage less than two minutes later.

With 2:25 to play in the second, Turner turned another Gator turnover into a layup on the other end, and sophomore Alison Schafer followed with Denison's eighth three in the second period to help the Big Red take a 51-26 lead heading into the half.

Outscoring the Gators 13-9 in the third quarter and holding them to 18-percent from the field, DU entered the final frame with a 64-35 lead. After a pair of Arbore free throws cut Allegheny's deficit to 69-48 with 3:26 to play, Schafer countered with two at the charity stripe to go back up by 23, 71-48.

Despite three-straight buckets from the Gators to end the period, Denison earned a statement win in the North Coast Athletic Conference to improve to 6-9 in conference play, dropping Allegheny to 2-12 in the NCAC.

Atkinson led all scorers with 17 points on 5-of-7 shooting from three-point land. Schafer tallied the first double-double of her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Turner chipped in a career-best 10 points and Lauren Longbrake added 11.

Rylee Donovan and Arbore headlined the Gator performances, dropping 14 and 13 points, respectively. Brooke Smith and Julianna Skowron finished not far behind with nine points each.

Currently sitting in sixth-place in the NCAC, the Big Red will host Hiram College on Wednesday, Feb. 14 for their regular season finale with the Terriers. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
