MEADVILLE, Pa.—Jordan Holmes racked up 28 points, 25 rebounds and seven blocked shots as Denison defeated Allegheny College, 59-43.
After a sluggish first quarter saw Denison shoot 19 percent from the field, they bounced back in the second, getting seven points and eight rebounds from Holmes over the 10-minute span. Heading into the half, Denison held a 31-18 lead.
The third quarter reverted back to the stagnant offense that plagued the first. DU connected on just two field goals in the period but they continued to dominate the glass. Leading 41-25 with less than a minute to play in the third, Allegheny got back-to-back 3-pointers from Kaylah Pinkney to send the game into the fourth with DU leading by 10.
In the final period, Holmes scored the first eight points of the quarter and DU opened on a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach. Holmes scored 14 of her season-high 28 points in the fourth quarter.
Holmes was 7-of-18 from the field and 14-of-22 from the free throw line. Holmes's big offensive game pushed her over the 1,400 career point milestone. She has now scored 1,401 points, grabbed 1,645 rebounds and blocked 617 shots.
The win moves Denison's record to 12-12 and 9-6 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Allegheny drops to 3-20 and 1-13 in conference play. The Big Red will close out the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 15 when they host Hiram at 8 p.m.
