Jordan Holmes

GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Jordan Holmes finished with 20 points, 18 rebounds and eight blocked shots as Denison held off Otterbein, 49-36 in a defensive struggle at Livingston Gymnasium in the first game of the 2016 Denison Classic.

The Big Red held a narrow 22-21 lead at the half and was on top 32-29 heading into the fourth quarter.  Denison utilized an 11-2 run over the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter.  That allowed the Big Red to take their largest lead of the game at 43-31 after Erica Holmes' 3-pointer with four minutes to play.

DU outscored the Cardinals 17-7 in the final quarter to lock up the 13-point win.

Holmes played all 40 minutes and was 8-for-12 from the floor. Sixteen of her game-high 18 rebounds were defensive.  In addition to her eight blocked shots, Holmes also led the team with three steals.  Gabrielle Nottage came off the bench to score 10 points in 24 minutes and Erica Holmes chipped in seven points.

Denison shot 31 percent from the field compared to just 20 percent for Otterbein.  The Big Red also held a 48-37 advantage on the glass.

Otterbein was led in scoring by Dani Kissel's 11 points and Ali Cartnal's 10 points.

The Big Red returns to action on Saturday when they take on No. 20 Ohio Northern at 3 p.m.  Following Denison's win over Otterbein, Ohio Northern defeated Mount St. Joseph, 69-46 in the nightcap of the 2016 Denison Classic.
