Denison held the Cougars to 22 percent shooting and just 19 points in the second half to secure the 11-point victory. The two teams were deadlocked at 28-28 at halftime, but in the second half DU did the job at the free throw line, connecting on 15-of-21 attempts.
Both teams struggled from the field as Denison was 7-of-24 in the second half while Misericordia hit just 7-of-31 shot attempts. Thirteen fouls on the Cougars would send Denison to the free throw line 14 more times than their opponents down the stretch. Staubach scored 12 of her 14 second half points at the line.
Staubach finished the game 5-for-15 from the field but was 12-of-15 at the free throw line. She also added 10 rebounds in 28 minutes. Holmes led all players with 19 rebounds (12 defensive), while contributing six blocked shots and eight points in 38 minutes. Candise Love reached double figures with 10 points and six assists, while Kellie Arter added nine points off the bench, going 3-of-5 from beyond the arc.
Misericordia (5-5) got 14 points from Sam Baro and 13 from Hannah Seely.
Denison improves to 10-2 and will return to action on Saturday (Jan. 4) when they travel to The College of Wooster for a 5:30 p.m. tip off.
