The Denison men's track and field team capped off their weekend trip to North Carolina on Saturday with a strong showing at the VertKlasse Meeting held on the campus of High Point University.
Senior Mitch Keller paced the Big Red with a top-15 finish in the 800-meter run. Keller's time of 1:57.71 won his heat and landed him in 11th in the 91-man field. Zach Munn posted the second-fastest time by a DU runner, crossing the line in 2:00.15 which landed him in 28th place. Zach Cove was 31st overall after checking in at 2:00.66, while senior Ryan Keller followed in 32nd at 2:00.73.
Junior Michael Bonebrake finished third in his heat of the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.90, while also taking fourth in his flight of the 200 dash (24.80). Senior Quenton Richards also competed in the 200-meter event, taking third in his heat with a time of 23.52. Fellow senior Lucas Romick was runner-up in his heat of the 200 with a time of 23.83.
In the triple jump, freshman David Carter took 12th in the 21-athlete field after turning in a combined jump of 45'4.50". With his PR mark, Carter moved into seventh on the school's top performers list.
In the 4x100 relay, the grouping of Carter, Bonebrake, Romick and Richards finished 14th with a time of 44.28. The final event of the night, the 4x400 relay, saw the team of Mitch Keller, Munn, Niall Clancey and Cove placed third in the final heat of the event with a time of 3:31.49.
The Big Red returns to action next Saturday at the Marv Frye Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
