Denison sophomore Wallace Branche closed out the 2014 season with his first appearance at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.
Branche qualified for the national meet on May 12 at the Ron Altholff Invitational with a personal-best performance of 47'11.25". That mark moved him from 23rd to ninth in the final Track and Field Results Reporting System national rankings.
On Saturday, the sophomore's best jump came in his first attempt when he posted a mark of 46'8.25". After fouling on his second attempt, Branche recorded a jump of 45'7.25".
The men's triple jump national title went to Southern Maine's Jamie Ruginski with a combined jump of 49'7.75".Dominique Torres (Christopher Newport) and Kris Joint (Moravian), who were both in Branche's heat of the triple jump, finished second and third, respectively.
