The Denison men's indoor track & field team sent a partial squad to the Ohio Wesleyan University Open on Friday evening in Delaware, Ohio.
Freshman Sam Beech led the Big Red with a victory in the 3,000-meter event. The rookie distance runner completed the race in 9:30.41. Sophomore Jordan Dekel trailed his teammate, Beech, with a time of 9:35.89 en route to a second-place finish.
Also finishing second was the 4x400 relay team of Ivan Hall, Corey Black, Stephen Czujko and Ian Mulmat. The DU foursome completed the race in 3:41.66. In addition to the relay finish, Mulmat took fourth in the 200-meter dash after clocking in at 24.42, and Hall finished fourth in the 400 (55.92). Hall also placed seventh in the 200 with a time of 24.90, while Czujko was seventh in the 800-meter run (2:04.86).
First-year Quenton Richards also posted a pair of third-place performances on Friday night. Richards recorded a time of 7.18 in the 60-meter dash and cleared 5-08.00 in the high jump. In addition, the freshman placed 10th in the long jump with a leap of 18-01.00.
Senior Joe Nichols took fifth in both the 60 and 200-meter dash events. Nichols recorded a time of 7.42 in the 60 and 24.55 in the 200. The senior also placed seventh in the long jump (18-06.00). Will Mason took ninth in the 3,000-meter run (10:12.61), while John Bute was 10th in the shot put with a toss of 39-06.50.
Denison continues its busy weekend on Saturday at the Division III All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein University. Events are slated to begin at 11 a.m.
