The field for the 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship was announced on Sunday night and Denison senior Dee Salukombo will be making his third-straight appearance in the national meet. Salukombo qualified in the men's 5,000 meter run and will compete on Saturday (March 10) at 5:15 p.m. on the campus of Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.
Salukombo's season-best time of 14:24.58 in the 5,000 meters was achieved at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University. That time, which was achieved on Boston's banked track, converted to a qualifying time of 14:28.18. Salukombo boasts the nation's sixth-fastest time in the event this season. The nation's top time of 14:13.90 was posted by Middlebury's Michael Schmidt.
This will mark Salukombo's first attempt at the 5,000 meters at the NCAA Indoor Championship. In his two previous indoor berths, Salukombo placed seventh and 10th, respectively in the mile. At last year's NCAA Outdoor Championship, Salukombo placed 12th in the 5,000 meters.
A four-year qualifier and three-time All-American in cross country, this marks Salukombo's eighth career NCAA appearance. He is a four-time All-American, earning three certificates in cross country and one at 2010's indoor track and field championship.
