Big Red compete at Last Chance Meet
The Big Red posted a strong showing at the Denison Last Chance Meet, the final tune-up before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, on Friday evening.
Senior Dee Salukombo and sophomore Jonathan Brachna finished first and second in the 800-meter run to pace DU. Salukombo crossed in 1:57.06, while Brachna clocked in at 1:59.06. Senior Alexander Chappars took fourth in the 3,000-meter run after posting a time of 9:17.39, while junior Irwin Castro's time of 11.34 in the 60-meter hurdles was good enough for sixth place. In the 400-meter dash, Ivanhoe Hall placed ninth after crossing the finish line in 56.21.
Senior Wendell Taylor posted a strong outing in the shot put in preparation for the NCAC Championship meet. Taylor finished third in the shot put after a heave of 44'5.25". The senior's toss was a personal best and also ranked 10th all-time in program history.
Denison also had two relay teams place in the top-3 on the night. The 4x400 team of Brachna, Win Fox, Steven Johnson and Salukombo placed second with a time of 3:35.04. The foursome of Brachna, Hall, Fox and senior Chris Roth finished third in the 4x200 relay after clocking in at 1:36.39.
Denison returns to competition next Friday at the NCAC Championship hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind.
