Salukombo qualifies for finals at NCAA Division III Championships
Denison sophomore Dee Salukombo (Lakewood, Ohio/Lakewood) qualified for the finals in the men's mile after placing 10th overall in Friday's trials at the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.
Salukombo, who was the first Denison track athlete to qualify for the NCAA's indoor championship since 2005, placed fourth in his heat of the men's mile. Salukombo posted a time of 4:21.03 which was enough to get him into Saturday's championship final. He posted a school-record time of 4:12.23 last weekend at the North Coast Athletic Conference championship which was good enough to punch his ticket to nationals.
Matt Turlip of New York University posted the top time in today's trials and will start Saturday's final in lane three. Salukombo will start in lane five on Saturday. The championship in the men's mile will take place at 2 p.m.
