In its first dual action of the season, the Denison men's tennis team knocked off Ohio Dominican, 6-3, on Tuesday afternoon in Granville, Ohio.
The Big Red quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. Junior Andrew Marczak and sophomore Casey Cempre posted a dominating 8-1 decision over Tito Bonadonna and Justin Tjon at the second flights.
The teams of Grant Veltman and Shankar Rajupet, and Jackson O'Gorman-Bean and Graham Gettel both logged 9-7 decisions at first and third doubles, respectively. Veltman and Rajupet edged Walid Gtari and Tyler Johnston, while O'Gorman-Bean and Gettel slipped past Gerardo Perez and Patrick Ohanian.
In singles action, Veltman, Marczak and Rajupet all logged straight-set wins at the second, third and fourth flights. Veltman topped Johnston 6-3, 6-0, while Marczak and Rajupet defeated Tjon (6-4, 6-2) and Perez (6-0, 6-2), respectively.
Denison improves to 1-0 on the year, while the Panthers fall to 0-1. The Big Red returns to competition on Friday at the ITA Central Regional in Indianapolis, Ind.
